Aberdeen Law Project successful in SSSC hearing

The Aberdeen Law Project (“ALP”) is pleased to report that they have successfully proven that their client is fit to practise in the social care sector in a SSSC restoration hearing.

The SSSC are the regulator for social work and care in Scotland. If a worker who has been previously removed from the SSSC register believes they are fit to practise again, they can apply to the SSSC for restoration to the register. Lead advisor Aidan Urquhart and the ALP team guided the client through the SSSC restoration procedure and gave oral submissions regarding evidence, including four examinations-in-chief, at a four-day SSSC hearing. In addition to restoration to the SSSC register, Aidan was also successful in disproving an allegation of misconduct made against the client. With ALP’s help the client has been able to return to employment in social care.

The client said: “The Aberdeen Law Project has been a lifesaver for me. They have always been there to provide guidance, calm me down, support and encourage me. Aidan presented my case well and made sure that he countered everything that the SSSC said. His responses were measured, clear and concise which I believe assisted the panel members to see exactly what he was saying and he backed this up with the evidence that we had already submitted...

“The Aberdeen Law Project is a great service not only for the clients that it supports but also for the students who get real life cases to work on. I have no doubt that my case has provided the team with a real challenge which they rose admirably to and did not allow the complexities of the case to get on top of them. It is great that this service is available to support people who cannot afford to pay for representation and I will certainly be recommending it to anyone who might need it. Thank you once again for everything that you have done for me and for assisting me to get the fair and right outcome that I deserved.”

Aidan Urquhart, lead advisor on the case, said: “This case was very challenging as the tests used by the SSSC for restoration can be difficult to meet. However, it was also incredibly rewarding to be able to achieve this result for the client who is now able to practise as a social worker again. I’d like to thank all the team members who made contributions to this case, no matter how big or small, without them the result would not have been achievable.”
