We are delighted to announce that our application for the Common Good Fund has been successful.
The funds will be used to continue closing the access to justice gap in Aberdeen by expanding our Language Barrier Initiative.
Some 55,000 immigrants live in Aberdeen, nearly 25% of the city’s population, and the prevailing majority come from non-English speaking countries. We know from working with and listening to the local community that these people often cannot access legal advice or representation. Compounding this problem is the language barrier, which makes it difficult for non-English speakers to make effective use of conventional sources of free advice.
Our Language Barrier Initiative ensures that all those who need our services, free legal advice and representation, have access to them across Aberdeen.
We are tremendously grateful to Aberdeen City Council for granting us this funding and are excited to continue our work in the city.
