Meet our team: Bethany Hunter

Bio

I am a third-year law student who joined ALP in first year.  I am currently the Tech and Design Lead and love using graphic design to further ALP’s image and mission of serving the community.

Favourite quote?

‘While there is a lower class, I am in it, while there is a criminal element, I am of it, and while there is a soul in prison, I am not free.’ – Eugene V Debs. I love this quote because it reminds me of how we must all be invested in serving and helping others.

How would you describe your experience of the Aberdeen Law Project?

I’ve been able to benefit from many opportunities to develop skills taught in our courses, as well as use my hobbies, such as art, to contribute to the Project even more.

Who or what inspires you?

I’m very inspired by Munroe Bergdorf and her tireless dedication to her activism for LGBT people, especially those of colour.  I respect how she has always been very open about her experiences and uses innovative ways to enact change.

Why do you do pro bono?

I’ve always felt that anyone with the skills and opportunity to assist others has the duty to do so and the Aberdeen Law Project gave me the perfect opportunity to do just that.

What advice would you give to someone considering studying law at Aberdeen?

Jump in with both feet and join activities that align with your goals; if you’re passionate about reaching out to the wider Aberdeen community then join ALP!

Where do you see yourself in ten years’ time?

Hopefully serving clients of a firm and able to continue pro bono work beside that.

And lastly, what’s the dream?

To have a job I love and be surrounded by friends and family.

ALP is grateful for continuing financial support from the University of Aberdeen Development Trust.
