The Aberdeen Law Project’s (“ALP”) representation team is delighted to report that it has secured a 20 percent rent reduction for clients living in damp accommodation.
Antonia Andison and Rebecca Quinn negotiated with the landlord on the clients’ behalf and, following an application to the First-tier Housing Tribunal, secured a 20 percent rent reduction that was backdated from the date the lease began. They also ensured that the landlord carried out necessary repairs.
The client said: “The ALP team were professional, supportive and knowledgeable. When working with the ALP team there was constant and clear communication, as they were incredibly responsive to emails. We never felt like we were alone in the dark, instead we felt reassured in the knowledge that they were there to help us. Additionally, the team were always on the other end of the zoom line should we wish to discuss something in further detail.
“One rarely seeks legal counsel when things are going well, and we were not the exception. However, throughout the stressful time that our paths crossed the ALP team remained kind, empathetic and understanding, which are often traits that are overlooked but so desperately needed when times are challenging.
“They provided light at the end of the tunnel with realistic and possible options and solutions to the situation we were in.
Overall, working with the ALP team has been a pleasure and we would highly recommend them.”
Lead advisor Antonia said: “I’m so pleased that we were able to help the clients secure a positive outcome. Despite only being in the first year of my law degree, the extensive training ALP have given me allowed me to secure the best possible outcome for the clients. I feel very passionately about pro bono work and to know that we managed to relieve some of the stress faced by our client is hugely rewarding.”
ALP is grateful for continuing financial support from the University of Aberdeen Development Trust.
