ALP’s “So You Want to Be a Lawyer” event gives school pupils a window into law

The Aberdeen Law Project is delighted to report that its annual “So You Want to be a Lawyer” event was a success.

The event – which attracted a record audience – gave school pupils across Scotland the opportunity to hear from a mixed panel of current law students at the University of Aberdeen and members of the profession. Panellists answered a range of questions on everything from applying to university and studying the LLB to what day-to-day life in the legal profession is like.

Alex Bates, Schools’ Initiative Coordinator, said: “It was great to see such a strong turnout of prospective lawyers. The insight our panellists gave was fantastic and I know I speak for the whole team when I say how grateful we are to Adam Davies, Lindsay McCormick, Lindsay Murray & Anna Robertson for agreeing to take part.

Inspiring the next generation of law students and ensuring that every pupil has the support they need to access higher education, regardless of background, is essential. We are looking forward to building on the success of Monday’s event and pressing on with our busy programme of events to do whatever we can to help.”

One of the attendees, an S5 pupil from Falkirk High School, said: “I got into law through a debating class that I took on a whim in S4, because I’d always been interested but never really looked into it until then. Now, I’ve solidified that I would like to do law at university and the event tonight has been really informative on what that might entail.”

ALP is grateful for continuing financial support from the University of Aberdeen Development Trust.
