Student law clinic successfully obtained a four-figure settlement for a client following a dispute regarding an unfit vehicle

The Aberdeen Law Project (“ALP”) is delighted to announce they have successfully obtained a four-figure settlement for a client following a dispute regarding an unfit vehicle.

Prior to ALP’s involvement in the matter the client had faced a series of mechanical failures with the vehicle, including defects with the head gasket and severe coolant leaks. As a result, the client was forced to fund an entire engine replacement less than eighteen months after purchase. Lead Adviser’s Hannah McDermid and Ava Woods, alongside the team at ALP, guided the client through the process of seeking compensation, which involved engaging in simple procedure with the Sheriff Court. Through dedicated advocacy, ALP successfully secured a settlement which reflects the impact of the inconvenience the client had endured.

The client said: “Having exhausted all possible mean of dispute resolution, including mediation, with a car dealership 400 miles away, we turned to the ALP. It was the best choice we have made at time when it seemed quite hopeless to gain legal resolution at cost which would be potentially out of our means and risky. From the beginning ALP were highly professional, understanding, thorough and consistent. During the course we were assigned two key workers, Hannah initially, and then Ava took over to oversee the resolution. I can’t commend enough the talent, and professionalism shown by both; who were also juggling their legal studies at the time. Absolutely outstanding and a testament to not only ALP, but the University of Aberdeen Law faculty.”

Hannah McDermid said: “It’s been an honour to be involved in this case and I am delighted that ALP have provided a successful outcome for our client. I would like to thank the team at ALP for their support throughout.”

Ava Woods said: “I am beyond pleased that we were able to assist in rectifying this matter for our client and obtain the necessary compensation. I want to express my gratitude to my fellow ALP team members who stood by my side during the process and were a great support network for me during the case.”
